Down to 5

5 days. I'm completely obsessed at this point with two races, the marathon and the election. Lucky for you this site is about my marathon. I'm still sick. I woke up with more energy this morning despite not sleeping well at all last night. But I have been full of cough and sniffs. Did a light 4 miler this afternoon. It felt good minus the sick part. Knees and feet all good. I bought a new pair of shorts today. I know that's sort of a no no to do so close to race day but I'm going to try them out and I'm not picky about them. I bought them mostly so I could have something to carry my Gu in. My current shorts don't have pickets or anything big enough. Kinda dumb huh?

I may need to take another day off from work or two if this keeps up. I could understand if I hadn't been taking care of myself but really...

Bummer... the marathon website doesn't allow people to sign up for alerts on runners they want to track. That's lame. They allow me to signup 4 email addresses but that's it. They aren't allowing joe fan to go and pick a runner to track. If you really want to get notified on my progress, post a comment here and I'll see if I can add you to the list. I've heard other marathons where people get calls on their cellphones from automated systems. Most cellphones have email addresses that send text messages so that's always an option.

If you want to, you can safety pin Gu packets to your waistband. Since you wear spandex under your shorts, I doubt it will matter - unless you're changing that for the marathon? That would be a big no-no.

On the email addresses - create a Yahoo group. Make one of your four addresses the group. Allow anyone who wants to monitor your progress to sign up to the group. That way they can chat about you while you're out running as well.

Dude. Take the rest of the week off. Which is more important -- getting that TPS report properly formatted or feeling fresh for this thing you've been working towards for the last 2+ years and may never do again? Don't make me get on a plane to drag your ass out of the petri dish.

Richard, excellent suggestion on the yahoo group. Sign me up for it!
